By Katelyn B. and Violet N.

During the holidays, most family have something special. Some have activities, or maybe a special place they always go to for light shows. But there’s one thing that everybody has during the holidays. Food. Families all around the world bond over food. Sitting down at the table, surrounded by loved one can be the best feeling in the world, for most. Here’s our list of Christmas recipes perfect for your family.

Delicious, Savory Foods to add to your Main Course

Honey Glazed Ham:

Servings:15     Total time: 1 hour 35 mins

1 (5 pound) ready-to-eat ham

– ¼ cup dark corn syrup

¼ cup whole cloves

2 cups honey

⅔ cup butter

Step 1: Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).

Step 2: Score ham, and stud, with whole cloves. Place ham in foil lined pan.

Step3: In the top half of a double boiler, heat the corn syrup, honey and butter. Keep glaze warm while baking ham.

Step 4: Brush glaze over ham and bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes in the preheated oven. Baste ham every 10 to 15 minutes with the honey glaze. During the last 4 to 5 minutes of baking, turn on broiler to caramelize the glaze. Remove from oven and let sit a few minutes before serving.

A more affordable version of a holiday favorite, Honey Glazed Ham. You can even use pre-cut ham to make the process easier and faster.

A remix on your everyday green bean casserole:

Servings:6      Total time: 45 mins

2 (9 ounce) packages frozen cut green beans, thawed

-10 slices bacon

-10 small fresh mushrooms, chopped

-½ teaspoon garlic powder

-½ teaspoon onion powder

-1 cup half-and-half cream

-¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese

-Salt and pepper to taste

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Place green beans into a 1 quart or similar sized casserole dish.

Step 2: Fry bacon in a large deep skillet over medium-high heat until browned and crispy. Remove to drain on paper towels. Drain off some of the grease, leaving enough to coat the bottom of the pan. Add mushrooms to the grease in the pan and season with garlic powder and onion powder. Cook and stir until tender, about 4 minutes.

Step 3: Pour the half-and-half into the pan with the mushrooms and stir to scrape the bacon flavor from the bottom of the pan. Simmer until thickened slightly, about 5 minutes. Pour this mixture over the green beans. Crumble bacon over the top and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Season with salt and pepper.

Step 4: Bake for 20 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the sauce is bubbling and the top is toasted.

Many people like a nice green bean casserole around the holidays. But what if we add a twist… maybe some bacon and fresh mushrooms will do the trick.
