TAMPA, FLORIDA – Barack Obama is an influence to many black African American people. He was the first African American to become president of the United States and Harvard Law. His wife Michelle Obama was the first lady of the United States.

He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on August 4, 1961. In 2004, he was elected as a senator of Illinois, according to He then ran for president of the United States in 2008. To get there, he did lots of positive work in his community. He helped rebuild churches that were devastated by the closure of local steel plants, according to This is just one display of the great character he had as an influential person.

Barack Obama is not only a role model older people, but also youth. Farnell Middle School teacher Mr. Alvarado had this to say “He was a positive influence. Anything he could get involved in, he did”. He also said “He seemed like a family man”. A Farnell Middle School student said “African Americans gained hope and he was a good president”.

Another teacher (Mrs.Hendrick) also believed that Barack Obama had a great influence on African American people. She said ” He had a great influence on African American people, he set the tone to show that segregation was not a thing”. Barack Obama definitely helped African Americans overcome segregation and eliminate it from their life and the United States. There are plenty of African American people who look up to Barack Obama for hope in their life, as his 2008 presidential campaign slogan would indicate.

Barack Obama was also a president for two terms. In those two terms, he created Obama Care, and made it a part of the United States. Barack Obama supported the LGBTQ community as the president of the United States. His wife Michelle Obama also helped kids and families who needed it. A Student at Farnell Middle School named Ashten C. said “I thought it was great that she helped during Irma for kids that need food and shelter”. Michelle Obama focused on charitable work as the first lady of the United States, and she continues to help out in her community.

Barack and Michelle Obama are great influences for African American and all people. They have done great work in their community, along with helping end segregation. People white and black look up to Michelle and Barack Obama in their everyday life and see two people who are roles models and provide hope for all people.
